Established in 1990, the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Chennai, located at the historic Lady Willingdon Campus, has been a cornerstone in the realm of teacher education in Tamil Nadu. Founded with the support of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, and approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bangalore, DIET Chennai commenced its journey with an initial intake of 50 students for the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) program. This capacity was subsequently doubled to 100 students per year, reflecting its growing prominence and commitment to nurturing quality educators.
